doing poorly

it's all about perspective.

KJ (with a forlorn look on his face): teacher, i did very poorly in my english. it's my worst subject.

me (getting worried): oh dear, how much did you get?

KJ: 99/100. i got full marks for the rest of my subjects...

me: *speechless*

saying things in unison

in attempting to teach the meaning of "in unison"...

T says: All of you, say "unison" together.

kids, brimming with enthusiasm: UNISON TOGETHER!

bad news

L: teacher, i have bad news for you..
Me: (worried, wondering if everything is ok. is it bcos he did not do his work? is it because he lost something?) is everything ok, L?
L: my teeth is shaking.. (opens his mouth and shows his shaking tooth)

fashion trends

in an attempt to explain what a striped, floral and checkered dress is, i drew out a checkered shirt and asked the class, " How would you describe this shirt?". MT, after some hesitation, declares: "old-fashioned?"

sternly looks at the class, explaining to them about the dangers of running.
teacher: do you know the dangers of running? what if you knock into one of the teachers, who are pregnant?
students, with worried expressions on their faces: the baby will drop out..

weak-kneed

in an attempt to explain what "weak-kneed" or "faint-hearted" means, i shared about my experience at the dentist and how i started crying because it was so painful.
student's question: is it when you are young that time?
my response: (woefully) no....its not...its just 2 days ago...

me: (listening,secretly LAUGHING OUT LOUD in my heart!)

me: are your eyes on the paper?
D: (sticks his eyes to the page) yes ms lin! MY EYES ARE REALLY ON THE PAPER!

7 year olds drop their teeth

three beloved children (K, YF, TE) sitting in a row, and all of them had dropped their two front teeth! instead of being shy and self-conscious, they could not be more proud of that and all were hankering to show off their gums!how heart-warming :)

and when i announced them to be "bogeh"? they cackled away!

at 6.30pm sharp, LTE will always comment in his doleful voice "im so hungry"! :)

being angry ≠ losing your cool today, i observed CCF's class and just felt sooo inspired. the strictness, the little tolerance for nonsense, and yet, the kindness and the warm smile that she gives to the students. so much to learn!

made a call today to a parent and realised that J cld remember AND apply phrases taught in CW. how shocking, and yet, how comforting that my efforts not fruitless!
